Spinal decompression is a type of traction therapy applied to the spine. It involves gently stretching the spine, using a traction table or similar motorized device, with the goal of relieving back pain and/or leg pain. Injuries and long-term wear and tear on your spine can cause a compression of the vertebrae and discs, which can lead to pinched nerves, bulging, degenerating, or herniated discs. Decompression helps to reintroduce the proper space between vertebrae to reduce the pain and symptoms associated with different types of compression.
Conditions commonly treated with Decompression:
- Bulging disc - when the cushion between vertebrae bulges out.
Degenerative disc - when the cushion between vertebrae begins to wear out
Herniated disc - when part of a disc pushes on a nerve.
Pinched nerve - when a nerve gets compressed, causing pain or other discomfort
Sciatica - damage to your sciatic nerve.
Spinal stenosis - a narrowing of the spaces in your spine
